Fever by Shaun Inman

Shaun Inman released his newest project, Fever, today, a self-hosted RSS reader that aims to be “a cure for the common feed reader.” I haven’t tried it out myself yet, but it certainly looks intriguing, and if the quality of Mint is any indicator, Fever is sure to be awesome as well.

Biggest problem is that you need to have domain name for Fever to run on – it’s not enough to run it on a computer and access via its IP address. As far as I can tell this is an anti-piracy tactic. Surely there must be better alternatives than this. Further to this – two emails to the author have gone unread in over 2 week. I’ll certainly be keeping my $30 and not dealing with this developer. Ever.

Jay: That’s pretty strange–it’s too bad you can’t even run it on your own computer and access it as localhost. While the distribution model of Fever (and Mint) is interesting, I really think they would both benefit by having a hosted option as well.
